Gigajam and the National Curriculum

In response to requests from Teachers and Music and ICT Advisors, Gigajam has undertaken a Mapping exercise against the Key Stage 3 Programmes of Study (Music) for Year 7.

The Gigajam Curriculum Mapping Tool:

1. Demonstrates how Gigajam meets the N/C Programmes of Study.
2. Details the National Curriculum Schemes of Work and provides Gigajam Extension Activities which match the Schemes of Work outcomes.
3. Provides detailed lesson plans, based on the Activities in the Schemes of Work, utilizing the skills developed by the students gained whilst following Gigajam’s Essential Skills Courses (for Bass, Drums, Guitar and Keyboards)
4. Provides detailed lesson plans, that develop genuine composition skills, using the growing knowledge and playing skills developed via the Essential Skills Courses.
5. Demonstrates how to develop Band performance skills from individual instrumental learning.
6. Develops students’ understanding of, and ability to use, other music software packages, such as notation software (Sibelius and Finale) and desktop recording/sequencer packages(Reason/Cakewalk/Cubase). This helps to satisfy the cross curricula demands of ICT, through the practical application of skills learned via the Essential Skills Courses.

The Gigajam Curriculum Mapping Tool is divided into 5 sections.

Section 1

Summary of coverage of Programme for Study Year 7 Key Stage 3.

Section 2

Schemes of Work- showing how Gigajam can be used to deliver suggested Activities in the Programme of Study.

Section 3

Extension Activities-detailed lesson plans demonstrating use of Gigajam materials.

Section 4

Gigajam Extension Activities to support Music Technology-detailed lesson plans and activities with particular reference to composition and use of other music software programs such as Sibelius and Cubase.

Section 5

Gigajam Resources-Examples of developing Band Performance, Rhythm skills and demonstration of outcomes from composition activities (Section 4, above).
